Why this section is different from agenciesNo £2–5k for services, no middlemenSelf-service
All other Russian-language resources about studying in the UK are agencies (hotcourses, unipage, smapse, StudyLab, Albion and dozens of others). Their content is written to sell you a service for £2–5k. They will not show you how to fill in the UCAS form field by field, because that is not profitable for them.
This section is for those who want to do it themselves. No middlemen, no overpayments. All forms, all traps, all examples — open.
What you get without an agency: saving £2–5k, control over the whole process, understanding of the system (which will also help when applying for a visa and for ILR). What you lose: 30–60 hours of your time reading and filling in forms. At £50/hour that is still cheaper than an agency.

The UK for international students is not cheap. Tuition fees for international students are 2–3 times higher than for UK/EU (pre-Brexit) students. A realistic minimum for a 3-year Bachelor's in London is about £75–90k.

Financial requirement
- London: £1,483/month × 9 months = £13,347 in your account
- Outside London: £1,136/month × 9 months = £10,224 in your account
- Tuition fees for the first year — separate, on top of maintenance (if not fully paid at the time of application)
- 28 days continuously — the balance must not fall below the minimum on any day
- Can be in a parent's account — need a parental consent letter + birth certificate
The most common mistake in the financial part. Transferring money to your account a week before applying — refusal. The money must be in your account for at least 28 continuous days. If parents transfer — better 35–40 days before applying, to have a buffer.
What after the diploma — Graduate Route → ILR2 years post-study work, then Skilled Worker, then ILRLong term
Route to ILR through study
- Year 0–3: Bachelor's on Student visa (or 1 year Master's)
- Year 3: switch to Graduate Route — 2 years of work without a sponsor (from January 2027 — 18 months)
- Year 5: switch to Skilled Worker visa with a suitable offer (£33,400 for new entrants after Graduate Route)
- Year 10: 5 years on Skilled Worker → ILR (Student + Graduate Route do NOT count towards the ILR clock)
- Year 11: can apply for British citizenship
Bachelor's or Master's? Master's — 1 year instead of 3, but requires a Bachelor's already in hand. If you have a diploma from CIS → ENIC equivalence → apply for a UK Master's. Much cheaper in total (1 year tuition vs 3) and a faster path to Graduate Route.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply without an agency?
Yes. UCAS is the official centralised application system, it works directly for everyone. An agency does not give any advantage in selection. Universities look at your application, grades and personal statement — who sent it does not matter.
Is a Russian / Kazakh / Ukrainian school certificate accepted?
Full secondary education (11 years) is usually NOT equivalent to UK A-levels. Most universities require either an International Foundation Year (1 year bridge programme), or a completed first year of a university in your home country, or direct entry to Bachelor's year 1 with conditions. Some accept a certificate with honours + IELTS 7.0.
Can I work on a Student visa?
Yes, up to 20 hours per week during term and full-time during holidays. Not allowed: self-employed, freelance, professional sportsperson, doctor / dentist in training. More details →
Can I bring my family on a Student visa?
From January 2024 dependants on a Student visa are only allowed for PhD students and for research Master's (research degrees). Regular taught Master's and Bachelor's — no dependants. This is a serious change from the old rules.
What is better — Bachelor's or Master's for the path to the UK?
Master's is faster and cheaper (1 year vs 3), and also opens the Graduate Route. If you already have a Bachelor's from CIS — Master's is usually a more economical path. A UK Bachelor's makes sense if you want a UK degree from a prestigious university (Russell Group) and have the budget.
